Roads of Strategic Importance in the Spotlight
Members of the Riverina JO met with officials from the Federal Department of Infrastructure today, to talk about the Government’s Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) funding.
During the meeting Chair, Cr Rick Firman OAM and CEO, Julie Briggs presented the list of priority roads identified in the November 2019 Regional Freight Transport Plan. Members in attendance also spoke about specific issues relating to transport in their LGAs.
Department officials were provided with copies of the Freight Transport Plan, which highlights 36 routes in the JO Region that have constraints that impact on the efficient and effective movement of freight within and through the Region.
While today’s discussion focused on the Newell Highway and its feeder roads, it was recognised that there were a number of significant roads through the Riverina JO’s Region that required additional investment.
The Board of the JO will be seeking opportunities to apply for ROSI funding to address issues identified in the Freight Transport Plan.
